  •  New Resident: Coyote

BBHCA has a new resident coyote that has been spotted by numerous neighbors. Although 80% of their diet is rodents and rabbits, coyote will kill cats and dogs. Anyone with outdoor cats is urged to consider keeping them indoors.

If you see or come across the coyote, do not run or walk away as they consider this to be a sign that you are prey. Stand your ground until they go away.

If you walk a small dog at or after dusk, the park service recommends you carry a big stick. Note that coyotes become aggressive towards all dogs when they are raising their young in late April-June. Please notify BBHCA if you are aware of a coyote den.

     BBHCA MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION 2011–2012*

BBHCA is your voice with elected and appointed officials and government agencies—state delegates and senators, Lee District supervisor, Virginia Department of Transportation, Fairfax County Police, School Board, etc.

We’re a community that cares and takes action! We need your continued support. Without members, we have no influence.

Only BBHCA members hold the right to VOTE on community issues and any actions taken by BBHCA.

Note: We are not a homeowner's association. Therefore, we have no jurisdiction over (or interest in) what color you paint your house, what kind of deck you put up, whether you put in a hot tub, etc.

We focus on the larger issues that affect our community, including the latest proposal by Kettler to build an ice skating rink on Oakwood Road, which is immediately adjacent to our neighborhood.

Dues are only $20.00 for a household membership, or just $10.00 for an individual membership.

Your DUES will go directly towards:

    •  Printing and mailing the Brookland-Bush Hill News (4–5 times a year),

    •  holding community meetings on topics of interest (past meeting minutes),

    •  maintaining this web site,

    •  publishing the monthly electronic newsletter (eNews), and

    •  sending e-mail alerts and special notices (such as the one that helped catch the serial burglar this summer).

It's Your Community―Show Your Support and Join Today!

    BBHCA MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION 2011–2012*

*The current membership year is September 1, 2011 to August 31, 2012.

  •  Volunteers Needed for BBHCA Committee Positions

If you have a couple of hours a month, you have an interest in keeping our community a great place to live, and you have been looking for an opportunity to contribute, now’s your time! Remember, we are a civic association, not a homeowner’s association. A civic association works to improve its neighborhood through work by volunteer members.

Volunteers are needed for the following positions:

    • BBHCA eNews (committee assistant)

    • BBHCA Web (committee chair)

    • Yard Sale Coordinator (committee chair)

If you or someone you know is interested in these positions (students welcome), please Contact Jeannie Henry at president@bbhca.org.

  • December eNews

The eNews includes articles of interest to BBHCA members that aren't included in the printed newsletter due to space limitations. BBHCA dues paying members receive the current eNews via e-mail. Click on the link below for past issues.

    >> Past Issues  (Note: No issue was published for August 2011.)

  •   November BBHCA News (4 MB PDF)

A postcard was issued in lieu of the January issue to announce the January meeting.

BBHCA News is the primary form of communication with the 800+ residents of our community. All residents of the Brookland-Bush Hill residential area receive a print copy of the newsletter by mail approximately two weeks prior to each BBHCA meeting.     >> Past Issues
